QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS

The Pulpit Committee of The New Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church of Ferndale is actively recruiting for the next Senior Pastor of the congregation. 

The committee feels that God has already selected the chosen Pastor and will reveal him through this process.  He will be a born again, anointed, spirit-filled leader who is thoroughly versed in the Scripture and rooted in sound Bible doctrine, a man of integrity and Christian character, exhibiting the love and compassion of Christ, walking in holiness, anointed by God in the areas of ordering worship, administering the ordinances, preaching/teaching the Word of God, passionate about winning the lost for Christ, eagerly accepting and understanding the pastoral care of the flock and the work of the ministry. 

It is important that applicants are married and have served in churches similar in size to New Mt. Vernon, possessing the administrative skills necessary to delegate responsibility to appropriate church support and staff members (1 Timothy 3:1-11; Titus 1:7-9); have a sense of Godly calling and gifting (Romans 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 4:11-13); exhibit a Christ-like attitude of servant leadership (John 13; Mark 10:42-45; Philippians 2:5-11); desire to shepherd/lead God’s people with humility, grace and accountability (1 Peter 5:1-6; Ezekiel 34); love the Lord, His Word and His people with passion (Jeremiah 20:9; Deuteronomy 30:19b,20; 32:47).

Strong skills in finance and budget management are necessary to assist in the planning, preparation and execution of our annual church budget while shepherding the church toward growth.  The Pastor must have demonstrated ability to raise funds for church operation and outreach ministries.  General knowledge of and experience with building construction and renovation will also prove beneficial.

The calling requires that the applicant have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with some course work in Biblical studies, Master of Divinity Degree or its equivalent. The candidate must have pastoral experience.  Some flexibility may be allowed according to the dictates of the Holy Spirit.
